It's A Small World After All

I read this incredible article on Musicfog.com called, This Is Indian Land:  A Songwriter's Journey.  It was break down of every song that is on (Cody Canada &) The Departed's debut album, This Is Indian Land.

If you don't know The Departed is made of members Cody Canada and Jeremy Plato from the former band Cross Canadian Ragweed.  Cody Canada was the front man for CCR and he's a very well-known singer-songwriter in the Red Dirt music scene.  Jeremy Plato was the bassist for CCR.  Seth James who had his own band and was associated with Ray Wylie Hubbard.  Steve Littleton who was associated with acts like Live Oak Decline, Stoney LaRue & the Arsenals, and Medicine Show.  Dave Bowen who was associated with acts like Stoney LaRue, Bleu Edmondson and Dale Watson.

The Departed's debut album came from a project that was going to be completed by CCR, but never was due to CCR's decision to part ways.

The record, This Is Indian Land, was Canada's idea, because when he was 16 years old he  journeyed to Stillwater, Oklahoma and fell in love with the Red Dirt scene there.  Canada generated influences like Tom Skinner, Scott Evans, Bob Childers, Jimmy LaFave and the Red Dirt Rangers.  So, Canada wanted to honor his love for Red Dirt music and create an album dedicated to his Red Dirt musical influences.

When I was reading the article, This Is Indiana Land:  A Songwriter's Journey I discovered something really cool.  The song, The Ballad of Rosalie that is on the album This Is Indian Land was covered and recorded by Tom Skinner but was originally wrote by Randy Pease.

Randy Pease is an Evansville, Indiana native and currently an English professor at the University of Southern Indiana.  I'm originally from the Evansville, Indiana area and I have many friends that have graduated and that attend the University of Southern Indiana.

Oh, it's a small world after all!!!
