Why an EP?
EP's are almost pointless to me. What is there point? I realize EP's are a way for artists to put out a little music out at a time and not go long periods without introducing full albums and then perhaps be forgotten by fans. Also I realize that it is a way for artists to put out a little music at an inexpensive price, so more people will buy their CD's. Because let's face it CD's are becoming obsolete thanks to iTunes and other ways to digitally download music. EP's might be a good way for those purposes, but my quandary is if the whole record in its entirety is already cut, recorded, produced, and the whole enchilada...why in the world you put out an EP? What is the point of an EP then???
The Eli Young Band has there new album done and finished from the studio, but aren't releasing the whole album until later in the year of 2011. However, they'll be putting out a digital EP of 5 songs from the full record in May 2011. Why not go ahead and put out the whole album in May, instead of stinkin' digital EP? It seems so pointless to me. Since all of us EYB fans having been waiting for the new music ever since their last album, "Jet Black and Jealous", in 2008. EYB Fans have waited long enough! We want new EYB music and we want it NOW!!
What a Coincidence: Arcade Fire Wins at the Grammy Awards
Last week, for my song of the week picks I had "Ready to Start" by Arcade Fire. I recently discovered this Canadian Indie Rock band and I didn't know it but they were nominated for best album of the year at the Grammy Awards and on Sunday they WON! They beat out Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum, Katy Perry and Eminem. What a coincidence! I thought I discovered a really cool unknown band...but I guess there actually pretty well known, since they won a Grammy Award. An award that is the biggest honor to receive at the Grammy Awards. Craziness!!!
Hayes Carll's new album KMAG YOYO (& Other American Stories)
Don't spank it, crank it! Hayes Carll's new album was available in stores on Tuesday and if you have not gotten a copy, I suggest you do. Hayes Carll is one of the best songwriters to have ever graced the Texas Red Dirt scene and I would dare to rank him right along side some of the most brilliant songwriters of any genre. Hayes Carll's talented writings can be compared to the similarities of Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and Bob Dylan. Hayes writes songs about the truth and when he sings his songs, his voice is a perfect complement to the words. You can tell he's been there, he's lived it and he's felt it. He sings from his heart with an incredible passion and his voice has that raspy wail to it; similar to that of Kris Kristofferson's or Chris Knight's.
Get a copy at Best Buy stores for $9.99.
- Side note: If you didn't know KMAG YOYO stands for Kiss My A** Guy, YO-YO. It's an acronym used by the military.
