Songs of the Week:      Socks Off to
               Old School Hip-Hop

So, I was able to discover some of this awesome old school hip-hop music, thanks to my girl, Cass, who I had the privilege hanging out with a couple of weeks ago for my first radio DJ observation at WRFL.  Cass has this really cool old school hip-hop radio show called The Disco Damie Dance Party that airs every Friday from 4-6pm EST.  Check it out on WRFL, 88.1 FM, Lexington.  (WRFL also streams online http://wrfl.fm/)

1) Brother Ali
There is no other way to put this...Brother Ali is incredible.  This song and music video is such pure greatness.  It is dark, edgy and soulful.

Video:  "Breakin' Dawn"

2) Rakim
This New Yorker's song 'Love 4 Sale' has a really cool jazzy, soulful, type of hip-hop feel to it.  So, check it out and you won't be disappointed.

3) The Roots
The Roots, also known as The Legendary Roots Crew, The Square Roots and The Foundation, are a heavily jazzy, live instrumental, hip-hop group out of Phildelphia, Pennsylvania.

Video:  "Dear God 2.0"

Video:  This is a hilarious video of The Roots playing while Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake rap a parody about the history of rap.
