Bob Dylan Turned the Big 70 on Tuesday
The man, the legend, the voice of his generation has been blessing all of us with his incredible songwriting, emotional filled songs and his wonderful voice since about 1959. And it's only right that we all celebrate with this musical savior, Bob Dylan, with his milestone birthday of turning the big 70.
Tuesday, May 24 was Bob Dylan's exact birthday date. It was exactly 70 years ago to the date that he was born in Duluth, Minnesota and given the name Robert Allen Zimmerman.
Bob Dylan spent much of his youth listening to blues, country and early rock and roll radio stations that were broadcasted from Shreveport, Louisiana. He formed several bands well in high school and later a band in college.
Supposedly in 1985 Dylan explained his attraction with folk music and this is what he said, "The thing about rock'n'roll is that for me anyway it wasn't enough ... There were great catch-phrases and driving pulse rhythms ... but the songs weren't serious or didn't reflect life in a realistic way. I knew that when I got into folk music, it was more of a serious type of thing. The songs are filled with more despair, more sadness, more triumph, more faith in the supernatural, much deeper feelings."
