Yes, Yes, Yes!!! WRFL celebrated its one year aniversary of pumping out great music on the best radio shows to ever blast through your radio speakers or on your computer speakers, if you stream WRFL off the Internet.
June 17, 2011 at 12:10 am which was last Friday marked the one year celebration of WRFL receivng a tower upgrade from its 250 to 7900 watts tower. Yeah, MEGA upgrade! :-)
If you have noticed on my blog I'm a radio DJ at what I believe is the coolest college radio there ever was, is and ever will be. WRFL, 88.1 FM, is the University of Kentucky's college radio station on campus and is located on the north end of campus in the student center.
WRFL is a commercial free radio station that was founded in 1988. For the past 19 years it has been ran by students and other community volunteers without automation for the past 19 years and broadcasts live 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Yeah, there's always a radio DJ at the station, no automation. Awesomeness, right? Yeah!
With the exception of directorships, WRFL is entirely volunteer ran. The radio DJs are responsible for preping their own music playlist that is broadcasted across the radiowaves and operationg all the broadcasting equipment during their on-air shift.
WRFL is extremely diverse playing a wide variety of music genres. Also WRFL is dedicated to playing music that is not normally heard on your typical commercial radio station. In other words, no songs that are/were on any kind of music chart or that were/are big hits or were/are popular. So, you most definitely give your earhole a workout listening and checking out new music. Also keep in my mind that if you tune in and don't like what you hear, try again in a few hours and you'll hear something completely different.
I'll tell y'all what, I only became really familiar with the radio station and began radio DJing this past March 2011. But it has truly become the best thing I have ever done in my life!!! And even though I've only been at WRFL for a short time I realize how important this tower upgrade is/was. It means that WRFL can expand out to more radio listners in the Central Kentucky area. Ahh... beautiful greatness, isn't it???!!!
So, tune in and keep it all the way to the left...88.1 FM, WRFL, Lexington, Kentucky. Becasue it's your only alternative left to other crappy radio stations. lol :-) (LOVE WRFL)
