100th Post: Bob Dylan Concert Review

"It's Bob "Frickin" Dylan!!!

It was like having multiple musical orgasms.  Hit after hit after hit.  One great song right after the other.  There was no stopping or words spoken, just music.  Beautiful music echoing among the small and intimate crowd's ears.  It was pure bliss and if dared to miss the Bob Dylan concert with Leon Russell on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Robert's Stadium in Evansville, Indiana...you missed out my friend!  The concert flippin rocked and kicked ass!

Leon Russell was the opening act for Bob Dylan.  Leon came out in a fashion that reminded me of Charlie Daniels.  His  shoulder length, stringy white hair was plastered down to the sides of his face with his white cowboy hat and his long, pointy white beard pointed right to that 'eye-catching' Hawaiian shirt.  But his ensemble was all set-off by his wooden cane that he used to get on stage with and then he left it to lean up against his keyboard that he played for every song for the next 45 minutes that he was on stage.

I only recognized one song that Leon sang at the concert, but you couldn't really hear Leon's voice to well, because the sound dude totally screwed up and elevated the volume for the bass and acoustics over Leon's voice.  Though the sound was a 'little' off, Leon's performance was still awesome!  And the only words that Leon spoke of during his performance, came at the end, "Thank You".  And that said it all.

And let me just say Bob Dylan the headlining act, is still rockin' and rollin' like a rolling stone.  And bendin' them knees as he sings.  Ahhh...lol.  Oh, my goodness you just had to see him.  Bob Dylan seemed really small on stage (Hey, my seats were good and very close, too.) compared to the rest of his band members, so you can just imagine this 'funsized' lookin' guy wearing a black suit with a red tipped collar, one bold red stripe running down the sides of his pants and a big rimmed hat.  It was quite hilarious.

But in all seriousness...you can totally tell Bob Dylan loves what he does.  He has such a passion for music and he literally feels every word he sings and every note that he plays on his keyboard, guitar or harmonica.  Bob Dylan didn't talk much either during his performance.  He just introduced his band and said thank you and see you later at the end of the night.  But he's Bob "Frickin" Dylan!!!  He doesn't have to say anything, but sing and play music.

By the Way:  Bob Dylan most definitely reminds me of that song, "The Living Bubba" by The Drive-By-Truckers.  (Which is a tribute song for Gregory Dean Smalley.) 'Cause the lyrics in the song are, "I wake up tired and I wake up pissed.  Wonder how I ended up like this.  I wonder why things happen like they do, but I don't wonder long cuz I got a show to do...I can't die now cuz I got another show to do".

Yeah, that's Bob Dylan!  He's still rockin' it out at 70-years old and he ain't ever going to stop, because he can't die now cuz he has another show to do.  Bob Dylan is truly the greatest troubadour to have ever wrote a song!  (In my opinion of course.) lol
